There is always something comforting about a cup of hot tea when you are cold and feeling a little run down. Tea with lemon and honey is an old traditional drink that your grandmother may have recommended you try when you feel a cold coming on.

To enhance this old remedy, I like to select tea’s that have health-promoting benefits. Dandelion tea is known to help reduce liver congestion, gently cleanse the bladder and flush toxins from your kidneys. This is thanks it’s significant amounts of vitamins A, C and D, zinc, iron, magnesium, and potassium. Dandelion tea is also being studied for its benefits in balancing blood sugar and in weight loss.

Immune teaRaw Ginger and Turmeric are well known for their benefits in promoting healthy digestion and immune function. Adding these into your teapot enhances the flavor and benefits of this drink. The antioxidant properties in lemon help protect the body from against oxidative stress. Honey can soothe a tired throat and enzymes can aid digestion.

In the winter, I like to add this tea into my night-time routine curled up with a blanket and a good book.

 

Immune Supporting Tea

This tea is full of health-promoting properties. It's a great addition to your night-time routine during the cold winter months.

Ingredients
  

  • 500 ml boiling water
  • 2 tbsp loose dandelion tea or 2 tea bags
  • 1/2 inch piece of ginger, peeled
  • 1/2 inch piece of turmeric, peeled
  • 1/2 lemon, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp manuka honey or maple syrup optional sweetener

Instructions
 

  • Place everything, except the sweetener into a teapot and allow to steep for 5-10 minutes.
  • Fill your teacup and add sweetener if desired
