I LOVE pizza!

A few years ago I hopped on the cauliflower pizza crust wagon–so good. I still really enjoy those, but right now, I am into the quinoa pizza crust. Quinoa is actually the seed of a herbaceous plant. It is an unusual food that can be prepared like a grain and provides complete protein, supplying all 9 essential amino acids. In addition to its significant amount of protein, it also contains a wide range of vitamins and minerals such as zinc, folate, manganese and magnesium, while also being rich in dietary fiber and phytonutrients.

This crust is a natural gluten-free alternative and is easily adapted to suit vegan tastes by swapping the egg for ground flax seed. I make it both ways and they both turn out really well. Having quick and simple weeknight dinners that your whole family loves makes it easy to fit in healthy alternatives during the week.

Homemade Quinoa Crust Pizza’s

I love pizza and this quinoa crust is truly so good, satisfying and does not fall apart!

Cook Time 15 mins
Total Time 25 mins
Servings 4 people

Ingredients
  

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups cooked and cooled quinoa
  • 1 free-range egg or flax substitute (1 tbsp. of ground flax combined with 3 tablespoon warm water and allowed to sit for sit for 10-15 minutes)
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1 tsp. fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Topping

  • 1 cup fresh tomato sauce check out my recipe link in the notes section below
  • 1 cup of whatever you love on your pizza my fav's are listed above

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees, line a baking sheet with parchment paper (or apply coconut oil) to keep the crust from sticking when baked.
  • Whisk egg if using Mix egg [or prepared flax egg], quinoa and seasoning together really well with a spoon or with your hands
  • Form the quinoa mixture into 4 individual pizzas, or one large pizza, on the baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes and remove from oven.
  • Spread each pizza with the Raw Garden Fresh Tomato Sauce Top with whatever ingredients you love on your pizza. Two of my favorite combinations are fresh spinach, red onion, goat cheese and artichokes OR yellow bell pepper and sliced mushrooms with feta. Use your own creativity and construct your toppings to suit your taste buds.
  • After adding toppings, pop it back in the oven for 5 minutes to let the cheese melt. If you prefer your toppings raw, and are not using a cheese, then go ahead and serve at this point
