Winter can be really hard on our skin and hair. Nourishing your body from the inside out can support healthy skin, hair, and nails. Easy beauty tricks include:

  • Making sure you are drinking lots of water to help hydrate your skin in dry or cold conditions

  • Gently exfoliate once a week to slough off the dead skin cells

  • Each the rainbow! Consuming lots of beautiful colored fruits and vegetables helps your body have the nutrition it needs to repair and grow new skin cells.

  • Use natural care products on your hair and skin to reduce the toxic load. Remember your skin is the largest organ in your body! It will soak up everything you put on it.

I have two favorite hydrating masks, one for my hair and one for my face. I like to add these into my beauty routine once a week when my hair and skin are feeling dry and needs a little pick-me-up. What I love about these two masks, are they are made with natural ingredients that your body will love to soak up and are affordable to make in comparison to buying natural care products. I hope you love these as much as I do.

Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

1 organic egg or tbsp of vegan collagen powder

1 tbsp of cold pressed coconut oil

1 tbsp of cold pressed, virgin olive oil

1 ripe avocado

Place everything in a blender and process till smooth. Work the mask into your hair from root to tip. I like to tie my hair up in a bun or put a shower cap. I like to leave it on for 1-2 hours, then I use a little shampoo and wash my hair to help remove the oils. My hair feels so soft after!

Hydrating and Brightening Face Mask

1 avocado

1/2 cup of organic, plain yogurt

2 tbsp oats

1 tbsp manuka honey

2 tbsp, cold-pressed olive oil

1 tbsp, cold-pressed avocado oil

Place everything in a blender and process till smooth. This recipe makes enough for two masks. I take half the mask and massage it onto my face and neck in circular motions. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes, rinse with warm water, and gently pat dry. I keep the other half in the fridge and do the same thing in about 3 days. I like to do this mask when my skin is showing signs of dehydration and will do one Sunday and one Wednesday in one week. The mask will keep for one week in the fridge.
