In short, The Clean 15, Dirty Dozen list is simply an annual list released by the Environmental Working Group to identify the least and most contaminated produce. It changes slightly year-to-year so it’s a good idea to update your list, as well the  EWG has a lot of resources and materials for consumers to learn more about what chemicals are used where, and why you should avoid them. It is a good website to review when you have time.

Now the list is intended to be informative and a resource for people wanting to be selective about what produce they buy organic versus conventional. I have spoken to clients that felt the list was telling them which foods they should eat and not eat, which is not true. So to clarify the foods on the dirty dozen are healthy foods such as apples, bell peppers, spinach, and pears. These foods offer beautiful nutrients that can benefit our bodies, therefore these foods are always a better choice than processed and refined foods.

So please use this reference guide as a resource to support you in navigating through the market or grocery store next time you are buying your produce. Also be sure to check out my Apple Cider Vinegar Produce Wash to support you in washing all your organic and non-organic produce.
